Flu Season 2018
We’re currently seeing the highest rate of flu cases this early in the season. As of January 13th, AZDHS has seen laboratory confirmed 14,292 cases of the flu. This doesn’t include all those who has had the flu and didn’t get blood tests done. Also, the severity of this season’s flu is much higher resulting in life threatening pneumonia.
The Flu is viral and therefore should not be treated with antibiotics. Unfortunately too many patients ask for antibiotics and these are readily prescribed. The unnecessary and widespread use of antibiotics causes resistance and further weakens the immune system. Within a healthy immune system, the influenza virus is self limiting. It is more effective to allow the immune system to fight the virus. You will have less of a chance of getting sick again and you will not be contributing to the problem of microbial resistance.
However, the immune system must be kept strong so that when the assault comes, it is prepared. Immune system herbs taken daily will nourish the immune cells. These should be food grade and not medicinal herbs. Medicinal herbs are taken at the onset of symptoms, which usually include a mild sore throat and nasal congestion. Early recognition of the slightest symptoms is critical when treating with medicinal herbs. Herbs such as Golden Seal and Oil of Oregano are broad spectrum, anti-microbial herbs. This makes them invaluable in treating the flu virus since no one ever knows for sure what strain it is. You also receive anti-bacterial and anti-fungal activity with these herbs.
When you feel weakened and need stronger treatment, Vitamin C and Hydrogen Peroxide IV’s are useful. The vitamin C IV is immune boosting, while the Hydrogen Peroxide IV’s are a potent anti-microbial therapy.
