Hormone Replacement Therapy

Hormone Replacement Therapy In Scottsdale

Why do you need hormone replacement therapy?

Our hormones influence moods, weight, sleep, skin, and risk for cancer. Levels of some key hormones in the body often go down over time as we age and this can occur in both men and women. These can include progesterone, estrogen and testosterone. Symptoms can appear and are often very common in women who are reaching menopause and at a time their life when periods no longer occur.  Common symptoms include insomnia, anxiety, weight gain, hair loss and brain fog.

Our therapies focus on balance and metabolism of hormones. Even if the patient does not need hormones, there may still be an issue with how your body is metabolizing hormones which can lead to symptoms of imbalance.

We use a specialty lab for patients whose hormones are fluctuating due to perimenopause. This extensive report goes over the 3 metabolites of estrogen, the two testosterone metabolites and the two progesterone metabolites. It also looks at how someone is metabolizing testosterone and estrogen. This is important when the patient has facial hair growth or hair loss, a history of cervical or breast cancer, acne, PMS, etc. A patient may need liver support and microbiome support in clearing hormonal metabolites.

Bioidentical Hormones

We prescribe bioidentical hormones including estrogen, progesterone, and testosterone. The forms come in cream, sublingual, oral and injectable. Nutritional support in the metabolism of hormones is included with all of our patients.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

Hormones that have been lost can be replaced with hormone therapy. After treatment, your symptoms will improve and your hormone levels will increase.

In addition to hormones, we also prescribe injectable Ipamorelin which is a popular anti-aging therapy that improves muscle tone, healing, and stamina.

Your doctor will guide you through your therapy based on your preferences and will discuss a variety of options currently available.

Menopause and Andropause

Everyone has heard of menopause but some may not know that there is also a andropause.  Medically speaking, the decrease in male hormones is referred to as andropause. The reason is that the male hormones related to sexual function as a group are called “androgens.”

Menopause is often felt as an acute event associated with lack of a menstrual cycle and hot flashes and night sweats.  But this is simply when estrogen (Estradiol) levels decrease.  Prior to this, progesterone levels usually decline (in the 40’s) and testosterone declines (in the 30’s) with both events causing various symptoms.

Andropause is a different entity altogether. The decline in testosterone is more insidious and is not just related to aging.  Both the average testosterone level and the average sperm counts have dropped dramatically since the 1940’s.  Numerous theories for this drop have included the rising rates of obesity; endocrine disruptors found in plastics (which increase estrogen), stress, and various prescription medications.

These effects can be reversed when hormone levels are restored to optimal levels using a safe, proven, bioidentical hormone replacement therapy.
