Avoid the 2nd Wave of Flu Virus
Staying Well During and After Covid-19 Epidemic
A shelter in place has been executed now for nearly 2 months. Soon it will be lifted and the question everyone is asking is, will there be another wave? The answer is not dependant on our government but on individuals. Due to the shelter in place, many have been staying in to protect their immune systems. Unfortunately, isolation weakens the immune system if you are not doing things proactively to keep it strong. Exercise, good sleep, sunlight, diet and supplements all contribute to a strong and balanced immune system. So whether you have isolated yourself from others or not, you can still modulate your immune system by doing the above activities.
Ways to Improve Your Immune System
- Healthy Foods. Did you know that 1 tsp of sugar suppresses the immune system for 12 hours? Following an anti-inflammatory diet significantly reduces your risk for contacting the flu virus. The side effects of this diet include weight loss, more stamina, less pain, improved digestion and better sleep.
- Movement. Moving your body enhances circulation which is valuable to overall health. Muscles in your legs contract to propel the lymph fluid upward towards the heart in order to be cleansed. Lymph is the carrier of cellular debris and microbes. If you’re not moving, your muscles aren’t contracting and the toxic lymph becomes stagnant in your tissues. Movement also increases overall oxygenation of the tissues which is unfavorable to the pathogenic growth of existing bacteria and viruses. Exercise increases body temperature which is also unfavorable to the growth of pathogenic microbes.
- A Healthy Microbiome is incredibly important as it makes up 50% of your immune system. Fiber enhances the growth of friendly bacteria and carries out waste. Taking at least two different high quality probiotics will keep things balanced.. but only if combined with a high fiber, low sugar diet. Taking probiotics does not compensate for a poor diet.
- A positive Attitude in less than optimal circumstances is difficult but needed in order to mentally survive. Our thoughts can either break us or heal us. It takes mental discipline but the results are worth it. Maybe don’t watch the news for a day. Exercise is one of the most powerful attitude changers there is and works fast.To schedule a telemedicine consult call 480-334-8278 or go to Request Appointment.
